My approach to instructional design

At the heart of every project is a problem that needs solving, and the learners who will solve it. In collaboration with stakeholders, subject matter experts, and the learners themselves, I design the catalyst.

I respect the learners. Their time is valuable, and they deserve tools that are practical, engaging, and well-crafted: tools that will inspire them to make decisions and add skills that have a positive impact on their daily work.

I dive deep to understand the challenge, and chart a path to a solution through backward design and mind mapping. The focus is on action: what must the learners do? I identify obstacles and creative ways to clear them, maximizing successful outcomes.

I communicate, evaluate, iterate, and improve, grounding my work in the fundamentals of adult learning theory.

As a lifelong learner, I'm in constant pursuit of knowledge, adding new ideas and tools to my tool kit through books, blogs, podcasts, and active participation in professional learning communities. I'm skilled at my craft because I believe in it and I live it: every day I'm a learner, energized by the opportunity to grow.
